Basically they removed the part about save or die and just left the auto crit part in (and crits are also made of Fail).

Isn't CdG in the Tomes just an auto-hit/crit attack as well? Or did it just assume things were still running normally, and gave monsters with horrendous grapple bonuses the ability to two round essentially any player by using the Lift maneuver?
